We were lucky to live in the same road for many years. Uncle Alan always had such a big smile, which didn't fade even when he came home from work to regularly find his house invaded by one or several of the Gent clan.
My funniest memory of him was on our shopping trips. He would take Mum to Sainsbury's and I would often go too. I always had a can of coke and a Mars bar on the way home. Uncle Alan knew when he drove over the humpback bridge, that it made me feel a bit sick after consuming that. He took great delight in speeding up, every time 😀
As kids, we knew Uncle Alan had previously been a Scots Guard and that he had worn a Busby. Everytime we went to Buckingham Palace, we looked for him, just incase he might be called in by The Queen, even though we had seen him in Upper Stanford just the day before 😀 That has stayed with me and I always think of him whenever I'm near there xxxxx
